Richard A. Harbaugh graduated, with honor, from
Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois in 1969. He received his law
degree from Northwestern University School of Law in 1972. Following
law school, he joined the tax department of a “Big Six” accounting
firm, where he served a variety of publicly-held companies and
private businesses for nine years. He then served as a planned
giving consultant at Northwestern University for three years, where
he conferred with the University’s donors in structuring major gifts
to that institution. Mr. Harbaugh has been in private law practice
since 1985 and has concentrated his practice in estate planning,
taxation, retirement planning and employee benefits, and
representation of closely held businesses. He also has substantial
experience in not-for-profit corporation law and the role of
charitable giving in financial and estate planning. He is a
Certified Public Accountant.
